  Personnel

ARMS professional staff consists of four full time archaeologists that are qualified as Principal Investigators, as defined by 36 CFR 61.  Our full time staff is qualified and experienced in all aspects of Phase I, II and III archaeological projects.  They possess extensive knowledge of Indiana and Midwestern archaeology and the laws and guidelines that regulate the Section 106 process. Our staff has worked in every county within the state.  The diversified staff possesses expertise in:   lithic analysis, prehistoric ceramic analysis, historic artifact analysis, geoarchaeology, geographic information systems, computer graphics and geophysical archaeology.  ARMS support personnel for field and laboratory projects fluctuates with the demand.  Temporary personnel (full and part time) are added as needed to fill crew chief, field crew and laboratory positions.


 

 Donald Cochran, Director

 Mr. Cochran has over 25 years of archaeological experience and has directed the activities of ARMS since 1984.  Mr. Cochran is also an Assistant Professor and serves as the Curator of Collections in the Anthropology Department.  He has held numerous offices in the Indiana Archaeology Council (the former Council for the Conservation of Indiana Archaeology) and is currently on the Board of Directors.  Mr. Cochran is the prehistoric archaeologist on the DNR State Historic Preservation Review Board.  He is proficient in all levels of archaeological investigation and has authored many technical reports and several articles.  He has also given many presentations at public meetings, local and regional conferences.  He is skilled in artifact analysis, particularly prehistoric lithics and raw materials.  His research interests include Early and Middle Woodland ceremonial sites, lithic technology and buried site archaeology.  

  Beth McCord, Assistant Director

Ms. McCord has 15 years of archaeological experience.  She has been the Assistant Director for Research since 1998.  She is a member of the Indiana Academy of Science and the Indiana Archaeology Council.  She is responsible for the execution of ARMS grant and research projects and is competent in all phases of archaeological investigation.  She has authored many technical reports, published articles and has given presentations at local and regional conferences.  Her research interests include remote sensing technology in archaeology, prehistoric ceramics, ceremonial sites, site formation processes and GIS.
